Black History Class

Peace to the four year degree seekers
Scholarship, grants, out of pocket, & loan receivers
Shout out to the students who do it like it's nothing to it
Education
Programs that make students more independent
Teachers who stay later in the class rooms than expected
Making sure that the students remain the greatest
School ain't nothing like home...
In the dorm rooms sitting alone waiting by the phone for a call...
A call from your parents just so you can know that everything is alright at home
But really looking for that guidance in mom's conversation!!
This is college!!!
Wondering where do you go after graduation??
Things seemed so much clearer in high school
How can a young adult grow when there's so many rules
And then...what's a curfew?? What's a few drinks at a student mingle & meet??
What can they do to avoid the freshmen 15??
That's what freshmen think...
But in reality
What's suppose to be a place of knowledge is now the new social club with pregnant girls, wanna-be greeks who would sell their soul & front on their friends, lost souls, & stressed 20 year olds going through early mid-life crisis...
Never intended for a University that was founded on social justice & human rights to be the number one suicide plantation..
Not all schools....but too many suicide cases lately on the news..
What's that about??
Who supports the black schools other than the financial government route??
Why is it that so many honor students are denied grants but the boy with no dad in the projects...who don't give a damn about his grades...gets all the financial aid and spends his refund check on weed, rims, and J's?
I'm talking Jordans...how many kids lost their life for a pair of them??
And was it worth it??
Back to education...how bad do you really want it??
Just like that...we get off focus
I just want my people to want it...to know it
Don't get lost behind false doctrine....
It's sad when black folks don't have a proper knowledge of how we came to America and slavery...I know crazy...
But blame it on the text books...the books that only gave slavery a paragraph...an inch of a page in a book...
The parents who decided not to take their children down that path
But how could you NOT teach your children about the past existence of the black
How blacks folks had to eat left over animal scraps, spend all their earnings on holidays and broke the next day...the slave master's trap...
Kinda reminds me of today's society...black folks spending all their money on foolery but can't pay bills!!
(But that's another blog)
Dear teachers...teach the children the truth so they won't get played
Teach them how black folks got beat if caught reading & writing, sold to other masters for nickles and pennies, black women raped by slave owners, blacks lynched naked and bleeding hanging on trees....that's not normal but still a part of American history but NEVER taught in history....
It's a shame... I didn't even read Frederick Douglass narratives until I got to Alabama State University
I always thought my people were running around Africa like monkeys...when really...Africa also knows of slavery & everyone there ain't black...
Back to the basics...the whole point is to pay attention and to  listen...
Learn about our people like Benjamin Banneker, Phillis Wheatley, & Peter Spencer..There's more black heroes other than Martin Luther King Jr. & Malcolm X
To my sisters...you can still be fly & know a little about Sojourner Truth & Harriot Wilson..
What does it cost you?? A few extra minutes to read..
I understand education ain't for everybody & that's fine but how would you know if you never tried??
So once again...peace to the four year degree seekers
Scholarship, grants, out of pocket, & loan receivers
Shout out to the students who do it like it's nothing to it
