I'm just tryna make it
Be known as the greatest
Black & White Photographer...above the Mason Dixon
That's competition but I'm in it
I'm worth it
I'm winnin'
I'm tryna earn it
I just be thinkin' of ways to change the world through my art
I treat this blog has a start
Poetry coming straight from the heart
Instead of making millions & selling my soul for sinnin'
I've decided not to be dissin' but instead I'ma pray for your wisdom
tell you what I been thinkin'
Let me break this down...
Because I be kickin' rhymes about hope while many sellin' dope
No goals
What are we doing for our children & how are we reachin' students?
Hopefully you think before you speak because there's no point in repeating the bad decisions seen my our parents or the gang bangers aiming at innocent little children
Was it worth it? Over some Jordan's or because someone was too different
Many black people lost their focus
Too busy focusing on what we see on the TV and read about in the media
Becoming followers & losing leaders
I get speechless
Because they shootin' straight to the chest
The lies history books told about Africa
How come we don't really know exactly where we come from?
There's a disconnect in the black community when a child can mouth every song on BET but can't read a paragraph out loud in front of his class
When young girls are more concerned about having A** instead of passing their class
Chicago see more killings due to gun violence than actual sun rises
And I'm not making this up...
Just last year Chicago had 506 killings & 667 in 2001
What have we become?
Gun violence??
Many young black boys from here don't even live to see 21
One day you're here & the next day you're literally dead
We've turned into the Negro diggin up his past like Arthur A. Schomburg & eating the lies that our country's history fed
Countee Cullen wrote poetry that reached the soul
Gwendolyn brooks didn't sell out for the silver & gold
So why should we??
We can't even sleep...too busy worrying about getting shot up on our own blocks
Gun violence in Chicago...where does it stop?
We need to go back to the Vernacular Tradition...calling out to God on our visions & teach us how to raise our children different
How could we sit back & watch our city fall apart
We need a revolution before we streets get shot up & our minds tear a part
This ain't suppose to be living...
We gotta change our decisions & get back to soul seeking...that time is now!!
