Solange - Bad Girls

There is something to be said about this song. First of all, Solange is just not known as Beyonce's little sister...not anymore. She has really come into her own not only as an individual, but as an artist.

I appreciate her so much because it is because of her that I've even got into blogging. She's always been dope but her music is what keeps me so attracted to her as a whole.

In her song, "Bad Girls"
She tells us a story about a girl is who lived this life of total badness, but never got caught. She's in school, but does not care too much of the idea of it.  She's in a relationship that probably won't go anywhere. She also brings up her most immature moments such as losing her phone in a taxi cab, waking up in beds that are not hers, & becoming so wrapped up in herself that she forgets to wash her make up off her face...days later.

She states...

"The bed I woke up in that's not my own
The make up I applied two days ago
The night I lost my phone on the way home
The taxi came, I don't know where I'm going."

This song opens so many ideas of ways in which considers her a bad girl. The fact that she does not know where she is going, implies that she is lost which is the reason why she she could be a little unhappy & makes the decisions that she makes.
This song has a certain transient feeling to it. It's not a pleasant one nor a sad one. It's just there.

Even though, this is not the official video, this is a live version of her sitting in a back seat of a cab singing along side with a friend with an acoustic guitar, riding around New York City. The video in itself is so smooth & poetic.

Enjoy....

This song was originally a Blood Orange B-side sung by Dev Hynes. Solange remakes it & adds "Tell me what's wrong?"

Hynes insists; "I can tell you what's wrong," in his version, but I love how Solange flips it & does not make room for an explanation to her behavior. It sounds so perfect to me.
