I Wanted To Be An AKA...An Alpha Kappa Alpha

Before I graduated from high school
I wanted to be an AKA
An Alpha Kappa Alpha
Before I stepped foot onto my campus
I wanted to be an AKA
An Alpha Kappa Alpha
Before any talk of an interest meeting
I wanted to be an AKA
An Alpha Kappa Alpha
I admired her from the way she walked
I listened to her every time she talked
I asked God to make me an AKA right away
Because deep down in my colored soul...
I knew...AKA was the ONLY way
I always admired the way she served her community
Service to All Mankind
I always admired the way she promoted unity
Service to All Mankind
I even more admire the way she studies & help alleviate problems concerning girls & women
Twice again...Service to All Mankind
What I needed wasn't founded no where else
I needed a true sisterhood
I needed to be around strong women...other than myself
AKA taught me things that my teachers didn't
AKA took me places where airplanes, cars, & trains couldn't
My love for AKA is deeper than the trees across the street from my university
Sweeter than the river & streams
Higher than the evergreens
Purer than my virgin body
Sometimes when I wake up...I can't believe my eyes
This sweet gift of destiny is now & forever in my life
There is no metal prize, dollar sign, or diamond ring that can compare to my commitment to AKA
There are no words to describe the way I feel when I wake up everyday
And while I can still dance...I will savor the beauty & wonders of AKA
